Traditional Celtic Music
The Bowling Family of Byfield, MA has been playing traditional Celtic music together for years. Patrick, the oldest sibling, is an accomplished Irish flutist, bodhran player (the Irish drum), and has recently started playing the Uilleann pipes (the Irish equivalent of the bagpipes). He has also studied Irish stepdancing for years, and placed 20th in the country in his division in 2006. Tomás, the second oldest, started out playing classical violin as a child, and branched off into Irish fiddling a few years later, studying with some of the greatest Irish fiddlers in the world. Meghan, the youngest, plays the tin whistle, the concertina (an instrument similar to the accordion), and does accompaniment on the cello in addition to also being an accomplished stepdancer. All of the Bowlings have qualified for competing in international competition at the Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann Mid-Atlantic Fleadh, and have performed around the Northeast with each other, as well as separately and with other groups.
